Some minor pain and discomfort after rhinoplasty surgery are expected and normal. However, some patients may become concerned when they feel pain in areas that were not operated on. An example of one of these questions is, “Why do my teeth hurt after rhinoplasty?”

After a nose job, patients may notice that they feel pain in their teeth or that their teeth are more sensitive than normal. This is because some of the nerves that supply sensation to the teeth are located near the base of the nose. Therefore, pain signals can shoot down from the nose and into the mouth and teeth.

This is normal. While not all patients will experience this odd phenomenon, it is usually not a cause for concern. Additionally, this is typically temporary and will improve within a few days to weeks. Patients can help alleviate this discomfort with their prescribed medications or over-the-counter remedies.
