Rhinoplasty surgery is exceptionally common and involves a fairly easy recovery for most people. However, it is still a surgical recovery and patients do need to take certain precautions and use care after surgery. Let’s look at the question, “What should I avoid after rhinoplasty?”
First off, Dr. Santos will provide post-operative instructions which will likely include some instructions on what to avoid. Patients should not do any strenuous activity for at least two weeks. Walking and some basic activities are usually fine, but still use caution and do not bend over, lift anything over about five pounds, and avoid working up a sweat. After two weeks most people can return to basic exercise, but some activities may continue to be limited for a few weeks.
Secondly, patients should not smoke following surgery. Smoking inhibits healing and can lead to worsened scarring. Drinking should also be avoided for at least a few days. Though, it is ideal to not drink at all when recovering, if you do, keep it limited to one drink a day.
Finally, avoid touching or massaging the area unless otherwise instructed. This can cause damage, worsen side effects, and generally promote a less optimal result.
