Bellevue Chemical Peels: You, Only Younger!
The keen desire to make a difference in our skin’s youthful beauty has been around for centuries. In ancient times, Egyptians, Grecians, and Romans utilized facial ointments and chemicals in attempt to achieve more radiant, and more youthful skin. The simple chemical peel is possibly the oldest aesthetic treatment known. Today’s chemical peel treatments generally involve an acidic solution. The most common types are the trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). TCA peels are commonly used in our clinic and provide nice improvements in overall skin aesthetic rejuvenation. Also, of particular interest has been the Vitalize Peel from Skin Medica, as it is a patient favorite.
The mode of action is an acceleration of exfoliation or removal of the external dead layer of skin. The overall result is to smooth the texture of the skin, reduce small wrinkles, reduce uneven pigmentation, and improve blemishes. Other aspirations for chemical peel include maintenance therapy to go hand in hand with routine daily home skin care treatments. Variable depth chemical peel treatments are available including light, medium, and deep depth. Superficial chemical peels are the most commonly utilized in our center (Light TCA, and Vitalize Peel). When a significant enhancement of skin rejuvenation is desired, then fractional CO2 laser treatment is recommended, and the chemical peel can then become a supplemental therapy provided intermittently weeks and months after the laser treatment to maintain the results of the laser.
